Solubility/Dilution
Desmodur® ULTRA N3690 can be used with esters, ketones, and aromatic hydrocarbon solvents such as: ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, methoxypropyl acetate, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isopropyl acetate, etc. Dilute with butanone, cyclohexanone, toluene, xylene, 100# solvent naphtha and their mixtures. The miscibility with the above solvents is generally very good. However, the resulting solution must be tested for storage stability. Polyurethane grade solvents should be used (less than 0.05% water content, no hydroxyl or amino reactive groups). Aliphatic hydrocarbons are not suitable as solvents. Desmodur® ULTRA N3690 should not be diluted below 40% solids. Solutions with low base material content will appear turbid and precipitated during long-term storage.
Compatibility
Desmodur® ULTRA N3690 is generally miscible with the following products. Namely: Desmodur® N100, N75, N3200, N3400, N3300 and Desmodur® Z4470 aliphatic polyisocyanates; Desmodur® L, HL and IL aromatic polyisocyanates; Desmophen® 670 polyester polyols and polyacrylates. However, the compatibility of the prepared solution must be tested. Desmodur® ULTRA N3690 is not compatible with branched polyester polyols such as Desmophen® 651 or polyether polyols such as Desmophen® 1380BT.
Features/Applications
Desmodur® ULTRA N3690 is mainly used as the curing agent component of light-resistant two-component polyurethane coatings. The coating has excellent chemical resistance, weather resistance, and outstanding gloss retention. and excellent mechanical properties. The ideal coreactants are polyacrylates or polyester polyols. Coating systems formulated with Desmodur® ULTRA N3690 are suitable for auto-drying or baking and are used for finishing automotive original equipment (OEM), automotive refinishing, transportation vehicles, industrial products and plastics.
